Process:

1. Observe a R.E.A.D.® session in "Action"!
   1. ​See what is involved at each R.E.A.D.® session
   2. Supplies/equipment necessary
   3. Dedication and time commitment involved
   4. Physical and emotional commitment of you and your dog partner
   5. Benefits and rewards of working with students!
2. ​CGC Certification (Canine Good Citizen) www.akc.org
   1. ​Attend a CGC class
   2. Pass CGC test
   3. Receive Certification
3. ​ATD, Inc. Registration (Alliance of Therapy Dogs) www.therapydogs.com

   2. View DVD Training video and Pass initial ATD, Inc. Test
   3. Two medical observations at a selected facility (minimum)
   4. ​One school observation simulating a R.E.A.D.® session at a selected facility (minimum)
   5. Complete ATD, Inc. application, attached ATD, Inc. Test/Observation paperwork, applicable fee
   6. Receive your ATD, Inc. ID card and dog ID tag
4. ​​Tales of Joy R.E.A.D.® program membership
   1. ​Receive R.E.A.D.® manual; View DVD Training video; attend R.E.A.D. training
   2. Complete R.E.A.D.® written test
   3. ​Complete R.E.A.D.® application as a Tales of Joy R.E.A.D. group member, applicable fee
   4. Receive your R.E.A.D.® ID card and dog ID tag
5. ​Rio Rancho Public Schools Volunteer Packet (for all non-RRPS employees)
   1. ​Complete Volunteer Application online process by going to: www.rrps.net click on District - scroll down to Volunteers - follow the online process.  Notify Theresa McKinney when you have received approval notification.
