Classes are offered by Theresa McKinney (AKC Evaluator, R.E.A.D. Instructor, Tales of Joy R.E.A.D. Program Coordinator) and all donations accepted are used to support of the Tales of Joy R.E.A.D.® Program. Classes are offered on Tuesday and Thursday evenings from 6:15-7:15pm. All classes are 8 weeks in length and class size is kept small (minimum 4, maximum 8) offering the best opportunity to get know each client and dog individually.
Puppy Play/AKC S.T.A.R. Puppy Program
This class teaches the basic manner skills (loose leash walking, sit, down, come, stay) on a “puppy level.” We incorporate various objects and obstacles to begin building your puppy’s confidence and trust. We touch on grooming and health with your puppy and we learn to PLAY!! The S.T.A.R. Puppy AKC program is incorporated within these 8 weeks of class. "The program is a natural pre-curser to the AKC Canine Good Citizen® Test. "S.T.A.R." stands for Socialization, Training, Activity and a Responsible owner, all of the things a puppy needs to have a good life. Start life on the "right paw." - www.akc.org
Basic Obedience
This class teaches the basic manner skills (loose leash walking, sit, down, come, stay) and “raises the bar” on you and your dog’s abilities, adding distractions and challenges. We also incorporate “go to place,” speed and direction changes, and prepare you for the next steps with your dog!
AKC C.G.C. - Canine Good Citizen
"The Canine Good Citizen Program is a two-part program that stresses responsible pet ownership for owners and basic good manners for dogs. All dogs who pass the 10-step CGC test may receive a certificate from the American Kennel Club." - www.akc.org
